Michael Budde is one of the founders of the Ekklesia Project, all the back in 1999. He’s a political scientist by training and professor at DePaul University’s Catholic Studies Program. Mike is also the author of several books, including most recently, Foolishness to the Gentiles: Essays on Empire, Nationalism, and Discipleship.
When Donald Trump was elected in November, I couldn’t help but think about a talk Budde gave to the Ekklesia Project’s annual gathering in 2019. There he outlined a coalescing of forces that would bring political and economic upheaval, and called for a bold response from the church. His predictions have mostly come to pass, so I thought it would be good to talk with Budde about how he understands our situation now and how the church can be faithful in these times.
Follow the link and you can read an expanded version of Budde’s 2019 talk, which was published in Foolishness to the Gentiles as “Uncle Sam and His Son: The Church and the End of the American Empire.”
